WHO training for Kazakhstan on data visualization, Power BI and large language model prompt engineering

From 21 to 24 September 2026, the WHO Regional Office for Europe will hold an in-person training in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to strengthen national capacity in data visualization, dashboard development and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in health information systems.

High-quality and timely health data are essential for evidence-informed policy-making and stronger health systems. The training will help participants translate complex health data into clear and actionable insights that can support decision-making at national and subnational levels.

The 4-day programme will combine lectures, guided discussions and hands-on practical exercises. Participants will explore core principles of data visualization, work with the WHO European Health Information Gateway and develop interactive dashboards and automated reports using Microsoft Power BI. The programme will also introduce large language model prompt engineering, focusing on how effective AI queries and prompts can support analytical tasks and improve productivity while respecting ethical and governance considerations for AI use in health.

The training is intended for health information analysts and related professionals involved in the routine collection, analysis, interpretation or dissemination of health data, including specialists from ministries of health, public health institutions and national or equivalent statistical offices. A country-focused format will also support peer learning and knowledge exchange among participants in Kazakhstan.

The training is made possible through the generous support of the European Union and the action “Supporting Member States in the WHO European Region in strengthening health information systems and boosting health data governance”. It builds on WHO/Europe’s ongoing work to strengthen data use, knowledge translation and the ethical application of AI in health systems.
